About Us

Scholars Preschool is privately owned; we have our own identity and operate three independent centres. An opportunity arose to build centres that reflected our personal philosophy for high quality care and education, providing spaces that nurtures and supports children that enables them to become life long learners.

Pukekohe was established in 2005, Drury was purchased as an existing centre in 2006 and Waiuku was established in 2009. All three preschools are operated by Trudy and Stephen Cochrane. Trudy has over 20 years’ experience in the early childhood sector she has her Degree in ECE and holds a Post Graduate in Special Education. Stephen comes from a Managerial background with Marley NZ working with them for over 25 years.

All three preschool were established from previous homes, and they continue to offer the warmth and security from a child’s own home. They have large backyards with plenty of space, trees and home grown gardens. All centres provide healthy home cooked meals throughout the day and cater for children from the age of birth to 5 year olds.

Centres Philosophy:

Although the Philosophy’s of Scholars Preschool varies slightly, each is adapted to suit each centre and their community needs, but the overarching principles remain the same. Each centre provides small group sizes, infants, toddlers and young children areas, high staff:child ratios, well above the government regulations, highly qualified, motivated and dedicated staff and a fun and supportive environment. Our main priority is providing quality care and education and to nurture the child.
